I've been using Tata Indicom (VSNL) Broadband service in Bangalore for the past few months. And I'm really happy with it. I have the Explore Plus 1000 plan, where I get 512kbps speed and 1 GB download limit per month. The speed's good (I usually get that much download rate).
The best thing about them is the customer service. Any problem I've had till now, they've followed it up well and rectified the problem within a day in most cases. They also give a call once they've rectified the problem.
The downside: they spray cables all over your locality. The DSL cable that comes to my home jumps over trees and electric poles. One of the poles was removed recently, and the Electricity guys (BESCOM) just clipped the cable. (Needless to say, the Tata guys responded within a very short time to get the thing up). However, this just is not good management of the cables. There also is some 30 feet of cable lying wound up on the terrace (for future expansion?). Ah, just hope they get that bit of detail sorted out..

one more problem with tata indicom is they don't have coverage in all areas.. bsnl is better that way :) and they have improved on there service a lot..
Yeah, I've heard that too.. Actually I was surprised they could give me the connection. I stay in an area that's far removed from the IT space and it just looks and feels like the core Kannadiga area of old times -- Rajajinagar.
Airtel broadband is very good from the cabling point of view, and they bring in the cables underground. Many tariff options as well.

Surprised to hear such pleasant comments, I guess you guys just got lucky. Its not even been a month since I have subscribed to their service and I am already having trouble. Lets not even talk about the customer service. 3 days now and no resolution.

People don't go for Tata indicom broadband connection at all. Very bad service, very bad connection speed, costly (This guy amit shah luks like been cheated as he is paying 1000Rs for a 1GB download limit.) Hey man visit internetfrog.com and check out ur connection speed, I bet it will not touch 512 kbps at all. I had the connection tata indicom connection for about 3 months and I had 1 problem for every 4 or 5 days and they take a week to turn up to solve the problem. But for people having Airtel or BSNL, I have never seen them complaining and they give a good feedback. I am planning to move to BSNL as I didn't get Airtel for my area.
Once again don't go for TATA Indicom!!!!
Hey Mr.Amit Shah I dont know in which world u r in... do u know Airtel is providing 2 Mbps connection with 3GB download limit and with 1000Rs rental per month?

The rates have gone down since, and the bandwidth has increased.
But this still works for me, so I guess I'm one of the few very lucky ones for whom TATA / VSNL hasn't created many problems (see http://www.amitshah.net/2006/08/er-customer-ser-what.html for some poor instances of customer service)
guess u are lucky.. anyways any ideas on how to improve pings...
on the same server my friend gets like 150ms and i get like 350-500ms >.> apparently he got airtel and i have tata-indicom and i guess i'd agree to saravana... plus yea frequent disconnections(redials and at times wan light gives up on me) for me >.> guess i am the only unlucky person getting that...

I have been using TataIndicom connection for past 6 months. Beleive me, the service is worst. When something goes wrong with the connection, it can weeks before the connection is restored. Moreover, when I call the customer service regarding my problem, they reply that the connection shall be restored within 24 hours. But, this '24 hours' may be 24 days.

BSNL broadband :D They are basterds. Good service. They don't know what does that means. Since 1 month I am struggling to get my broadband service up (at C.V.Raman Nagar). This is second time I am facing with BSNL guys with in a year of time. I have raised 8 complaints in their web. They have closed all the complaints without fixing my broadband issue. I also have mailed the details to their GM office. No use. YADHA GURU THADHA SISHYA. It looks like that GM also another big bastered. Please never choose BSNL for broadband service if you want some mental peace. Don't get tortured by them.

Tata indicom is worst in BTM 1st Stage area, Banglore, I have taken 512 Kbps plan and i am getting speed of 30 Kbps, given enough complaints to customer care but no use. and I have came to conclustion after using 6 months. and I aslo enquired with others in this area..luckly every one getting the same worst speeed. I am great fan of Tata Indicom Broad band connection wire, but not wireless/wifi. Tata Indicom fit for nothing. tat indicom outsourced there network problems to another wender, they wont care about your complaint so be carefull.....finallly u should have enough luck to be connected using tata indicom
TATA Indicom, its better to go internet cafe than taking tata indicom connection. hardly u will be able to connect for 1/2 in a day. so think before taking the connection.
TATA Indicom net work engineer said to me that. airtel/BSNL is better than tata indicom.
I was in a plan 512 KBPS and I am getting speed of 30 KBPS, the enginer struggled a lot a made it has 110 KBPS and suggested me to quit from TATA and to choose BSNL or Airtel. be care fulll before applying TATA INDICOM Connection...belive me for any further details you can contact me @ 9986811846.
